TV-interview with CDA President Alexander G. Welzl, Shanghai Media Group

Vienna/Berlin/Shanghai/Beijing - 8 March 2021



Against the backdrop of the annual meeting of the China's National People's Congress (NPC) in Beijing – taking place between March 5 and 11, 2021 – CDA was asked by Shanghai Media Group’s Chief Europe Correspondent Bin Chen to comment on China’s role in the global multilateral framework and the Covid-19 pandemic. This year’s NPC-meeting was historic called “China’s Two Sessions 2021”: the NPC delegates decided upon the country’s 14th Five Year Plan and areas of development to achieve sustainable growth and lead innovation.


CDA’s President Alexander G. Welzl was one of several experts from Europe, the US and Asia who were asked to give an interview. Amongst them were former European and US ministers, ambassadors and leaders of governmental authorities: Edmond Alphandéry (French Minister of Economy and Finance 1993 to 1995), Craig Allen (the sixth President of the United States-China Business Council / USCBC in Washington DC, former United States Ambassador to Brunei as well as former Commercial Attaché at the US Embassy in Beijing) and Thomas R. Frieden (former director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention / CDC 2009 - 2017). From Germany Achim Haug (Director for East Asia at Germany Trade & Invest the economic development agency of the Federal Republic of Germany) and Berthold Kuhn (senior lecturer at Freie Universität Berlin, former visiting professor at Tsinghua University in Beijing) contributed as interviewees.
